With reference to your Secret Despatch of the 27th. of January, I have the honour to inform you that I should welcome the power of compulsorily repatriating natives of India, end that this Goverment will gladly bear any expense that may be incurred in such deportations.

In my Confidential Despatch of even date I have reported the deportation under temporary powers which I at present possess of one Hira Singh, and I am about to deport a Lahomedan who has recently arrived from Singapore sud who was dis- -missed from the Hongkong Police Force 2 years ago. This latter men I hope to send to India although he has expressed the desire to go to Shanghai and I have no legal power to send him to a destination he does not wish to go to.
